Monroe swim sets 20 PRs

FORT ATKINSON - The Monroe girls swim team finished ninth out of 12 teams at the Fort Atkinson invite Saturday.

Deforest won the meet, followed by Fort Atkinson and Badger Bigfoot.

"This is a tough meet with lots of competition," Monroe coach Linda Moser said. "It gives us a look at several of the teams we will meet up with at sectionals."

Out of 30 swims Monroe swmmers set 20 personal records.

"The girls swam with lots of energy and confidence, something we need to keep building on during these last few weeks of the season," Moser said. "I was very proud of their performance on Saturday."

Rachel Root won the 100 backstroke with a PR time of 59.81 seconds.

"She was so glad to break that 1 minute barrier so now it is on to the 59-second barrier," Moser said.

Root also placed third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.31 and eighth in the 200 medley relay with teammates Angie Beaver, Sarah Kind and Briana Katzenberger. The group finished with a PR time of 2:03.27.

The foursome also finished eighth in the 400 free relay with a PR time of 4:00.99.

Katzenberger and Kind joined Corlissa Robertson and Anna Meritt to finish 13th in the 200 free relay with a PR time of 1:55.73.

The Cheesemakers will host Milton on senior night Tuesday and will compete in the Platteville Invite on Saturday.
