Monroe swept by MG

MONONA - The Monroe Cheesemakers fell behind early to the Monona Grove Silver Eagles Thursday and waited all night for a spark to lift them. Unfortunately, that spark never came the Cheesemakers' way as they were swept by the Silver Eagles 25-13, 25-12, 25-15.

"Tonight, we got behind and we didn't have the mental and emotional toughness needed to get back in the match," said Monroe head coach Dave Gersbach. "When they come to play, they are hard to stop. But, tonight they didn't come to play."

Senior Jamie Armstrong led the Cheesemakers with eight kills and three blocks. Senior Jessica Wyssbrod had 14 assists for Monroe, while Chelsea Wyss came up with 10 digs and the team's only ace.

The Cheesemakers will travel to Mazomonie Saturday to compete in the Wisconsin Heights Tournament. "They're a great group of girls and I'm sure they'll bounce back for Saturday's tournament," Gersbach said.

With the loss, Monroe falls to 2-5 in the Badger South and 11-6 overall.
