Monroe sweeps Waterloo Invite

WATERLOO - The Cheesemakers swept the Waterloo Invitational Thursday.

Monroe's boys team finished with 223.5 points, more than 110 ahead of second-place Wisconsin Heights. The girls team ended with 211 points, 52 more than Mayville, which finished second.

Dylan Starck won the boys 1,600-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 37.1 seconds. Caleb Ahrens race to victory in both the 110 high hurdles (15.7 seconds) and 300 hurdles (44.1) and Michael Barrett scored two titles for the Cheesemakers. Barrett won the high jump with a mark of 6 feet and added a long jump victory (20-11). Cam Wahl won the pole vault (12-feet).

Monroe also got championships in the 1,600 relay (3:29.1) and the 3,200 relay (8:34.5).

On the girls side, Lauren Werth won the 100 (12.8), Jaclyn Ditter finished first in the 200 (26.9) and Rachel Rogerson finished ahead of the pack in the 1,600 (5:51.9).

In field events, Taylor Barrett scored a win in the high jump (4-10) and Jess Leu won a title in the shot put (36-3).

Portage, Waterloo, Columbus and Horicon also took part in the invitational.

The Cheesemakers get back into action May 10 at home against Stoughton and Fort Atkinson. The meet begins at 4:30 p.m. at T.R. Holyoke Field at Monroe High School.
