REEDSBURG - The Monroe baseball team rode some red-hot hitting to sweep a doubleheader from Reedsburg Saturday.

Monroe (2-2, 0-1 Badger South) scored nine runs in the third inning of the first game to beat Reedsburg 12-7 and then had a seven-run third in the second game of the twinbill to knock off the Beavers 12-8.

In Game 1, Monroe sophomore Hogan Edwards went 3-for-4 with three RBI and senior Sean Saxby was 3-for-5 with one RBI. Senior Desmond Ford went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

"You never know how guys will react after taking a two-hour bus trip to Reedsburg," Monroe coach Dustin Huffman said. "They played well early. They all had great approaches at the plate. It's a confidence booster for the team. Reedsburg is usually at the top of the Badger North Conference. They know they can compete."

Monroe senior Logan Weckerly pitched 3 1/3 innings to get the win in the first game. He gave up two earned runs on seven hits. He struck out one and walked five. Lucas Neuenschwander pitched 3 2/3 shutout innings and gave up just two hits. He struck out two and didn't issue a walk.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Monroe senior Chase Hellenbrand went 3-for-4. Both senior Carter Adkins and junior Garrett Gogin each drove in two runs. Ford went 2-for-5 with one RBI.

Monroe junior Tayler Meir pitched four innings to get the win. Meir gave up four earned runs on seven hits. He struck out five and walked two. Edwards pitched two innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits. He struck out two and walked one. Neuenschwander pitched one shutout inning.

Monroe will host Monona Grove (2-3, 0-1 Badger South) Tuesday and will play at Madison Edgewood Thursday before hosting Brodhead Friday.

"The pitching is starting to come around," Huffman said. "Tayler, Lucas and Hogan pitched well. If the pitching comes around and we get timely hitting I like our chances at home against Monona Grove and on the road at Edgewood."
