MONROE - The Monroe boys and girls track teams are hitting their stride as the season reaches its midpoint.

Further proof came Tuesday as the Cheesemakers hosted Milton in a Southern Badger Conference dual. The Monroe boys edged the Redhawks

76-70 while the Cheesemakers girls won 75-56.

The boys meet was decided on the final event, the 1,600-meter relay. Monroe's team of senior Skyler Stingley, and juniors David Kelly, Nick Gross and Steve Christiansen won in 3 minutes, 38.4 seconds.

Stingley also won the 800 in 2:04.8, making the qualifying time to run in the prestigious Penn Relays later this month.

The 400 relay team of sophomores Forest Klug-Hanson and Kyle Olson, senior Jon Becker and freshman Seth Calaway won in 45.6. Klug-Hanson also took the 100 in 11.4, and sophomore Grant Keith jumped 11 feet to win the pole vault.

"It's nice to see the quality depth that we are developing at this point of the season," Monroe coach Curt Miller said.

Monroe senior Maria Eberle, running for the first time this season in the 200, ran a personal-best 27.3 to win.

Sophomore Mafer Larraga anchored the 400 relay team with junior Jessica Jackson, sophomore Tre Vogeli and freshman McKenzie Hesgard to a win in 54.8 and also anchored the 800 unit (Jackson, Hesgard, and Alyssa Dale) to a triumph in 1:57.4. She was second in the 100 (13.7).

"We had a lot of question marks coming into this season, but many of those questions are being answered," Miller said of his girls squad.

Monroe will host the Simpson Relays on Friday.
