MONROE - Both senior Alicia Kuester and junior Sydney Mathiason turned in starring performances to help the Monroe volleyball team snap a 21-match losing streak in the Badger South Conference with a five-set win over Oregon Thursday.

Kuester had a team-high 19 kills and Mathiason had a double-double with 13 kills and 11 blocks to lead the Cheesemakers to the win.

"It's been four years," Monroe coach Heidi Witt said. "It was amazing. The crowd support was incredible on Parents Night."

Oregon knocked off the Cheesemakers in the first two sets 25-22, 25-20. Monroe (8-7, 1-2 Badger South) then responded winning the final three sets 25-17, 25-21, 15-8. The last time Monroe won a conference match came in 2012 when the Cheesemakers beat Monona Grove in four sets.

"The girls were not going to have any more of it," Witt said. "Oregon is a good team, but we were the better team tonight."

Monroe senior Hannah Neuenschwander had 20 assists and junior Alysha Witt added 17 assists.

Senior teammate Lexi Hilliard posted 18 digs.
