OREGON - A depleted Monroe girls soccer team suffered a tough 7-1 loss to Oregon Friday, May 10.

Oregon scored four in the first half and three in the second.

"They're very fast, very physical, very skilled," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said of Oregon. "Unfortunately, we're having problems with injuries. We had a few more this evening. We're really struggling with missing some top players. We have a very depleted squad. We were outnumbered in terms of depth."

Gabby Ludwig scored the lone Cheesemakers goal, off an assist from Maddie Knutson at 42:27 in the second half.

Although the final result wasn't close, O'Neill said she was happy with how her team stuck it out.

"I have to say, I was really proud of their effort," she said. "They fought to the bitter end. They didn't give up on themselves or their teammates, even though it was a struggle."

Monroe (1-6-1, 1-4-1 Badger South) plays Wisconsin Heights Saturday, May 11.
