Monroe singles net wins

STOUGHTON - All four singles players for the Monroe boys tennis team went 1-2 as the Cheesemakers finished last in the Stoughton Invitational on Saturday.

Monroe junior Silas Setterstrom defeated Stefan Butterbrodt 6-0, 6-0. Sauk Prairie's Brendan Ballweg defeated Setterstrom in three sets 4-6, 6-4, 10-3. Oregon's Calvin Schneider beat Setterstrom 6-0, 6-0.

"We played better than we have lately," Monroe coach Ashley Hermanson said. "Hopefully, we gained more confidence and continue with more wins as the season starts to come to an end."

At No. 2 singles, Ryan Peterson defeated Oregon's Nolan Twining 7-5, 6-0. Sauk Prairie's Jarrett Frosch defeated Peterson 6-0, 6-0. Jefferson's Ryan Messer knocked off Peterson 6-2, 6-1.

Big Foot's Alexis Duran at No. 3 singles defeated Cheesemakers' Quinn Sulejmani 6-4, 6-4. The Monroe sophomore beat Garrett Masterson 6-0, 6-2. Sauk Prairie's Grant Kirner defeated Sulejmani 6-0, 6-0. Stoneback at No. 4 singles picked up a win for the Cheesemakers knocking off Rayc Stahl 6-4, 6-2. Jefferson's Tyler Seisser outlasted Stoneback in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 10-4. Sauk Prairie's Alec Anderson knocked off Stoneback 6-0, 6-0.

The only win for the Cheesemakers in doubles came from the No. 1 doubles team of junior Kody Althaus and senior Tanner Purdy. Althaus and Purdy beat Alex Anason and Sam Meyers 7-5, 7-5. Oregon's top doubles team of Drew Christofferson and Matt Reisdorf defeated Althaus and Purdy 6-0, 6-1. Janesville Parker's Gavin Buus and Max Kisting knocked off Althaus and Purdy in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.

Both the Cheesemakers' No. 2 doubles team of Quinn Walsh and Brett Lyne and the No. 3 doubles team of Scott Foley and Andrew Johnson finished 0-3.

Monroe will play a Badger South Conference match at Monona Grove on Tuesday. The Cheesemakers will then host Madison Edgewood on Friday.
