BELOIT - With temperatures being anything but ideal, the Monroe golf team battled the cold conditions to earn a respectable second-place finish at the Beloit Invitational on Friday. In a field of 23 teams from around the region, the Cheesemakers finished with a team score of 327, just behind Fort Atkinson's first-place of 318.
Finishing with a team-best score was junior Matt Miller, who shot a 78 overall (70 was par for 18 holes), good enough for eighth place in the individual standings. On the first nine holes, Miller managed to shoot a 40, while on the back nine he finished with a score of 38. Teammate Eric Timm finished one stroke behind with a score of 79, which was ninth overall. Helping the Cheesemakers to a second-place finish in team standings were freshman Nick Baumann, shooting a 80, Tanner Thompson with 89, and Kyle Krebs with 97.
