PRAIRIE DU SAC - With two starters out due to injuries, a banged-up Monroe High School girls soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie with Sauk Prairie on Tuesday.
Senior Maddie Kallgren scored a goal on an assist from sophomore Brynn Ritschard at 18 minutes to give the Cheesemakers a 1-0 lead.
Monroe sophomore Olivia Werth missed the game due to a concussion, and freshman Emily Benzschawel is out for the year with a broken collarbone. Those injuries left the Cheeesemakers (7-2-2, 0-1-1 Badger South) with just one sub so they brought up three players from the junior varsity team.
"We were very low on numbers," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "They played a fantastic game. I don't think the score reflects how well they played."
Sauk Prairie's Camryn Ballweg scored a game-tying goal in the 39th minute on a pass from Lydia Breunig.
"They played a very tough game," O'Neill said of the Cheesemakers. "I was proud of the way they played tough. They could have just gave up, but they didn't do that."
Monroe freshman Anna Latimer had eight saves.
