DODGEVILLE - The Monroe girls soccer team out-shot Dodgeville 45-5 in the season opener Monday and settled for a 1-1 tie, after the Dodgers scored in the 72nd minute.

Monroe senior Kylee Ritschard scored a goal in the 36th minute to give the Cheesemakers a 1-0 lead. Both teams scored goals going against a tremendous wind.

"We dominated the game," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "We just couldn't get them into the back of the net. We had a lot of shots hit off the side of the post. I think the girls were getting a little frustrated. It was really a warm up game for them."

O'Neill said she was proud of the defense. Monroe goal keeper Rachel Wellnitz had five saves. Monroe hosts Wisconsin Heights at 5 p.m. Friday at Honey Creek Park.

"We need to get our finishing down for our next game," O'Neill said.
