PLATTEVILLE - With an eye toward the Badger South Conference and sectional cross country meets, the Monroe boys wanted to work on pushing their No. 4-7 runners at the Platteville Invitational Saturday, Oct. 5.
Darlington senior Tyson Miehe was the overall champion at the Platteville Invite with a time of 16 minutes to lead the Redbirds to the small school division championship 63-81 over Boscobel.
Monroe senior Ethan Moehn finished third overall and first in the large school division with a time of 16 minutes, 38 seconds. Senior Noah Tostrud took fourth overall and second in the large school division (16:39).
Monroe senior Trevor Blum finished 16th (17:38) and senior Jake Hirsbrunner was 17th (17:38) followed by sophomore Derek Christiansen, who took 21st running his fifth personal record in a row with a time of 17:48. Madison Edgewood edged the Cheesemakers for the team title 49-57.
"We were not concerned about sending the guys out hard and going after the victory," Monroe coach Dave Hirsbrunner said. "After last week, we are pretty confident what our top three (Moehn, Hirsbrunner and Tostrud) have to offer. Our focus Saturday was trying to move our fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh runners up. Although our race plan cost us a shot at winning the Platteville Invite, we believe we will reap the benefits of it in a few weeks down the road.
"Our guys continue to have their eye on the big prize at the end of the season. They are willing to take any and all sacrifices at the present time in order to finish the season off as best they can. This is a very focused group of young men."
