MONROE - Ben Conway turned in a solid pitching performance and the Brewers pounded out 10 hits to roll to an 11-3 win over Platteville in a Home Talent League game Sunday, June 23.

Conway pitched 6 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on eight hits. He struck out eight and walked three. Monroe's Scott White and Matt Busjahn were each 3-for-5. Seth Dascher went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, two stolen bases and two runs scored.

"It was nice to get the win and put up a lot of runs," Monroe player-manager Jeff Newcomer said. "The whole batting order was putting the ball in play and getting on base. It was a complete game."

With the win, Monroe improved to 3-6. Mitch Marty tossed 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief.

The Brewers scored three runs in the second inning. The first run scored when Dascher reached on an error. Marty also had a key RBI single in the second. After a short rain delay, the Brewers blew the game open with a four-run fifth. Brett Ritschard walked and Matt Busjahn singled. Taylor Riese then knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly. Dan Purcell had an RBI single to right and White walked with the bases loaded to give the Brewers a 7-0 lead.

The Brewers tacked on four more runs in the sixth. Dascher delivered a two-run double and Busjahn had an RBI double to give the Brewers an 11-0 lead. Newcomer liked the way Conway mixed up the hitters by throwing the knuckleball.

"It's a new pitch for him and he kept them off-balance," Newcomer said.

The Brewers had four stolen bases as a team.

"We have some speed on our team," Newcomer said. "When we get those kids on base, they have the green light."

Monroe has seven Sunday league games left before the playoffs. Monroe will host Hollandale Sunday, June 30.

Argyle's game against Wiota was postponed. The game will be made up, but there is no date scheduled yet.
