Monroe rolls past DePere

MONROE - The Monroe Blues skated to an 8-1 win over the DePere Deacons in the regular season home opener Saturday.

Monroe opened up the scoring in the first period with a power play goal by Tom Rane on assists by Paul Morris and Travis Rayala. The Blues out-shot DePere 13-9 in the first period.

The Blues lit the lamp five times in the second period. Goals came from Brandon Mortimer, Gottlieb Brandli III and Jordan Steurer of Monroe, as well as Ryan Roeming and Rane. Matt Strang had three assists to earn a playmaker. Rayla had two assists, while Lance Altmann, Drew Nafzger and Roeming each had one. Monroe out-shot DePere 19-8 in the second period.

In the third period, L.P. Govain and Rane each scored goals. Rane's third goal gave him a hat trick. There were two assists from Brandli III and one from Roeming and Jason Johnson.

Monroe goalie Christian Blick had 23 saves. Monroe will host the Fox City Ice Dogs at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20.
