MONROE - The Monroe High School wrestling team had five pins and rolled to a 60-15 dual meet win over Oregon in the home and Badger South Conference opener for the Cheesemakers on Friday.

"Based on the lineup we got during the week and based on the matchups, I had us winning 52-18 on paper," Monroe coach Tom Witt said. "We out-did what I was predicting. The expectation in practice this week was we would win the dual meet handily. When you get that mindset the kids really respond. They (Oregon) were missing two of their top wrestlers, and they forfeited four matches."

The Cheesemakers got pins from junior Travis Wolf (145 pounds), junior Dempzy Foley (170), freshman Bodie Minder (220), freshman Dakota Wickstrum (106) and sophomore Gabe Witt (113).

In his first match since coming back from injury, Wolf pinned Oregon's Josh Tanner in 51 seconds.

Foley pinned Oregon's Sam Crigger in 13 seconds. Minder, in his first match of the season, pinned Sam Reynolds in 1 minute, 12 seconds. Wickstrum pinned Faith Trinidad in 42 seconds, and Gabe Witt pinned Jade Durmaj in 1:36.

Other wins for the Cheesemakers came from David Andrews (126), who defeated Oregon's Conner Brickley 12-5, and freshman Alex Witt (132), who beat Collin Legler 9-4.

Four Monroe wrestlers received forfeits from Oregon wrestlers, seniors Cole Murray (138), Isaac Allen (182), Hayden Arneson (195) and Kyle Walter (heavyweight).

Monroe (4-3, 1-0 Badger South) will wrestle in the Sugar River Invitational in New Glarus today.
