MONROE - The Monroe Optimists No. 1 collected six hits on its way to a 4-1 victory over Monticello Sunday.
Casidy Pivonka started the scoring with a run in the second inning. With two outs in the third, Kaya Teasdale bounced a two-run single to center to extend the lead to 3-0. Monroe scored its final run when Natalie Dillon opened the fifth on a walk, and eventually scored on a safety squeeze bunt by Kylea Ambrose. Kari Jordan collected two hits and scored a run to aid the offense.
Dillon picked up the win, striking out 16 and walking one.
Monroe Optimists No. 2 fell behind Black Hawk 8-0 but fought back to score four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for an 8-8 tie. After a scoreless eighth inning, the game was halted due to a time limit. Meredith Hose collected two hits and scored two runs to pace the offense.
After allowing eight runs in the first inning Alexis Hilliard and Jessie Bennett combined to only allow three hits and no runs over the next seven innings.
In other games Orangeville defeated Evansville 9-1, Brodhead over Lena 1-0, Juda defeated Argyle 5-2, and Orfordville over New Glarus 14-1.
