MONROE - The Monroe Optimists No. 1 won a pair of games Sunday night to move into a tie for first place in the Monroe Area Fastpitch League.
Monroe opened the night with a 10-3 win over Juda. Sam Solberg, Corey Wells and Becca Armstrong combined only allowed three hits while striking out nine.
Kristin Vetterli, Armstrong and Lauren Hendrickson each had multiple hits to lead Monroe's offensive attack. In the second game, Monroe scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to overcome a 3-1 deficit and went on to defeat Orfordville 7-3.
Kayla Updike, Taylor O'Leksy, Kari Jordan, Vetterli and Heather Barta each had RBI hits in the sixth. The Monroe Optimists No. 1 (5-2) are now tied with Argyle for the league lead.
In White League action, Kady Jordan struck out seven and allowed only two hits to lead Monroe Optimists No. 2 to a 7-1 win over Durand. The Monroe Challengers stayed on top in the White League standings with an 11-8 win over Evansville. With the win, the Monroe Challengers (5-1) are tied in the league with Argyle No. 2 and Warren.
