MONROE - Samantha Solberg and Becca Armstrong combined to throw a no-hitter as Monroe Optimists No. 1 cruised to a 20-0 victory over Dodgeville in the championship game of the Monroe Area Fastpitch tournament.
Monroe pounded out 16 hits and scored in every inning en route to the title. Ellie Grossen, Taylor O'Lesky, Chandra McGuire, Kayla Updike and Alyssa Montgomery all had multiple hit games and at least one extra base hit for Monroe.
To reach the championship game, Monroe defeated Belmont 8-3 and Argyle 13-1. Updike smashed a two-run double and hit a two-run triple to lead the team on offense. Solberg picked up the win on the mound.
In the Argyle game, Monroe pounded out 15 hits including four for extra bases. Sarah Alexander, Heather Barta, Grossen, O'Lesky and Updike had multiple hit games for Monroe.
Dodgeville reached the championship game by beating Monroe Optimists No. 2 10-9 in 10 innings and Orfordville 2-0. Orfordville finished third in the tournament by defeating Belmont 5-3.
