MONROE - The Monroe-New Glarus girls swim team started the season strong Tuesday, rolling to a 101-69 win over Platteville-Lancaster at the Green County Family YMCA.

"It always feels good to win," Monroe-New Glarus coach Linda Moser said. "That is what you always hope for. We really have some green swimmers this year. There are a lot of them who have never swam in high school before. We learn by doing and will get better. They were all positive and upbeat. That is what I ask for, and that is what makes a team."

Monroe senior Skylar Lassen won the 200-meter freestyle in a time of 2 minutes, 23.93 seconds and the 400 freestyle in 5:14.33. Junior Maddie Hammer won in both the 200 individual medley (2:42.20) and the 100 breaststroke (1:24.68).
