Monroe-NG takes eighth; sets 15 PRs

FORT ATKINSON - Thirteen individuals and two relays set personal-record times as the Monroe-New Glarus girls swim team finished eighth at the Fort Atkinson Invitational on Saturday.

Badger won the nine-team Fort Atkinson Invitational racking up 435.5 points. DeForest finished second (381) and Waukesha Catholic Memorial took third (281). Monroe-New Glarus (161) took eighth, which was well ahead of Fort Atkinson (106).

"The girls swam a solid meet with several PRs being set," Monroe-New Glarus coach Linda Moser said.

Monroe-New Glarus junior Maddie Hammer took second in the 50-yard freestyle with a PR time of 26.02 seconds. Hammer finished sixth in the 100 freestyle with a PR of 56.87.

Sophomore teammate Nina Schiro placed fifth in the 100 backstroke with a PR of 1:04.83) and she finished seventh in the 200 individual medley with a PR of 2:27.32. Monroe sophomore Anna Latimer also set two PRs. Latimer set a PR in the 50 freestyle (34.34) and a PR in the 100 backstroke (1:31.02).

Two of the Cheesemakers' relay teams set season-best times. The 200 freestyle relay team of junior Brynn Ritschard, junior Samantha Ellefson, sophomore Cammi Ganshert and sophomore Emily Meritt finished with a time of 1:55.21, which was a two second improvement. Meritt teamed with senior Skylar Lassen, Schiro and Hammer to set a PR in the 400 freestyle relay with a PR time of 3:59.38.

Monroe-New Glarus will swim its final regular season conference dual meet at Stoughton on Tuesday.
