ELKHORN - The Monroe-New Glarus girls swim team had three relays medal and brought home seven individual medals after finishing fifth place at the 13-team Elkhorn Invitational Saturday.

The top eight in each event medaled. The Cheesemakers collected 11 personal-record times as a team.

McFarland won the team title, outdistancing Milton 405-338. Kenosha Tremper took third (330) followed by fourth-place Beloit memorial (273) and then Monroe-New Glarus (217).

"This once again was a step forward for the girls," Monroe-New Glarus coach Linda Moser said. "Last year there were only 11 teams and we placed seventh. Janesville Parker, Whitewater and Elkhorn all came in front of us last year, but not this year."

The Cheesemakers' 200-meter medley relay team of junior Skylar Lassen, sophomore Maddie Hammer, sophomore Grace Keith and senior Abby Oudinot took fourth place with a time of 2 minutes, 12.81 seconds.

Hammer finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.75) and added a sixth-place finish in the 200 IM (2:42.24).

Oudinot and Hammer teamed with senior Anna Wolf and freshman Nina Schiro to finish fifth in the 200 freestyle relay (2:02.11).

Keith finished fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:14.72) and Wolf was eighth (1:15.86). Keith added an eighth-place finish in the 400 freestyle (5:07.27), which sliced eight seconds off her PR in the 400 freestyle.

Lassen took sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:13.13) and seventh in the 200 freestyle (2:23.70). The Cheesemakers' 400 freestyle relay team of Lassen, Schiro, Wolf and Keith captured eighth (4:32.99).

Oudinot just missed a medal in the 50 freestyle taking ninth (30.26), which was 0.05 seconds away from medaling.

Monroe-New Glarus will host McFarland in a dual meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Green County YMCA.
