Monroe-New Glarus takes 5th at Hillmen Invite

PLATTEVILLE - The Monroe-New Glarus girls swim team swam to a fifth-place finish at the 31st Hillmen Invitational Saturday.

Baraboo racked up 518 points to win the nine-team Hillmen Invite over Sauk Prairie (458). River Valley took third and Wausau West took fourth (272.5), which was 1.5 points ahead of the Cheesemakers.

"This was not one of their best meets, but it never is because they are working so hard at practice to be ready for conference and sectionals so they are always tired at this point in the season," Monroe-New Glarus coach Linda Moser said.

Monroe junior Skylar Lassen finished third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2 minutes, 9.72 seconds and fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:06.27). New Glarus junior Maddie Hammer took fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.58) and fifth in the 100 freestyle (58.91).

In the 100 butterfly, Monroe sophomore Grace Keith finished fifth (1:07.18) and freshman Nina Schiro took fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:06.39) and sixth in the 100 IM (1:10.71).

Each of the Cheesemakers' three relays finished fourth. Keith and Hammer teamed with seniors Anna Wolf and Abby Oudinot in the 200 medley relay swam to a time of 2:02.53. Keith and Lassen teamed with Oudinot and Hammer in the 200 freestyle relay finished in (1:49.62). The 400 freestyle relay team of Lassen, Schiro, Wolf and Keith finished in (4:06.81).
