MONROE - Longtime assistant coach Eric Losenegger was named the new Monroe baseball coach Wednesday.

Monroe High School Athletic Director Jeff Newcomer made the announcement in a news release.

Losenegger has been an assistant baseball coach under former head coach Dustin Huffman. Huffman resigned from the baseball head coaching post recently. Losenegger is a 1995 Monroe High School graduate, who has been involved with baseball in Monroe for 30 years.

"The high school job has always been a dream job of mine," Losenegger said. "I'm very excited about it. It's a great opportunity."

Losenegger has served as a Monroe Senior Legion and Home Talent Baseball League head coach before.

"Coaching in any sport is a big commitment," he said. "I talked to Dustin when he was making his decision. He had priorities that were more important. He's one of my closest friends and he was supportive of me getting the job. It's a unique situation. I truly believe we have things going in the right direction."

The Cheesemakers are 75-139 over the past nine years and last year finished 7-17 with a 13-3 loss to Beloit Turner in a regional semifinal.

Newcomer was excited to have Losenegger step in as Huffman's replacement as head coach with his experience of the game and program.

"We are very excited to add Coach Losenegger to the Cheesemaker staff," Newcomer said in a news release. "Coach Losenegger brings experience and a true passion for not just the sport of baseball, but in particular Monroe baseball and the Monroe community."
