MONROE - The Monroe High School boys tennis team won two of the four singles matches but dropped a Badger South Conference dual match to Stoughton 4-3 on Thursday.

"It really was a good matchup for us," Monroe coach Matt Bordner said. "It was nice to see a team a little more toward our level."

Monroe senior Silas Setterstrom defeated Stoughton's Nolan Meyer 6-1, 6-0 at No 1 singles. The other singles win for the Cheesemakers came from senior Nick Baumann at No. 3, who beat Stoughton's Alex Dedie 6-2, 6-2.

"Nick Baumann has been working really hard in practice, and it really paid off tonight," Bordner said.

This is Baumann's first season on the tennis team after playing three spring seasons on the golf team.

At No. 2 singles, Stoughton's Adam McCune defeated Monroe senior Ryan Peterson 6-1, 7-5. At No. 4, Monroe's Quinn Walsh lost to Stoughton's Branden Metzler 2-6, 6-2, 3-6.

"Quinn was really good tonight," Bordner said. "That three-set match was really big for him. As we get deeper into the season, that experience will hopefully lead to him being able to pull out a few more wins."

The Cheesemakers' No. 2 doubles team of Ross Oxenrider and Jacob Kind defeated the Vikings' Johnathon Blaikie and Jet Matteson 7-6, 7-5.

"It really was a fun match to watch," Bordner said. "Both Monroe and Stoughton really played well. It really could have gone either way."

At No. 1 doubles, Stoughton's Zeth Zeichert and Connor Merow beat the Cheesemakers' Nathan Smith and Alex Tordoff 6-4, 6-1. The Vikings' No. 3 doubles team of Zerek Zeichert and Cole Brickson defeated Monroe's Scott Foley and Zeke Frankford 6-3, 6-1.
