MONROE - Monroe senior Kristin McArdle and the Cheesemakers treated a season finale dual match against Milton as a tune-up for the Badger Conference tournament Friday and Saturday.

McArdle (14-3) at No. 1 singles cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 win over Milton's Marianne Moser and the Cheesemakers knocked off Milton 6-1 Monday.

"We knew Milton would be a tough team," McArdle said. "I knew it would be a good match. I wanted to get used to match play so I am ready for conference."

Monroe (14-3, 5-1 Badger South) swept all four singles matches. Monroe junior Ellie Shuda at No. 2 singles defeated Milton's Becca Kessler 6-1, 6-4. Shuda improved her record to 16-1 and she may get a first-round bye for the conference tournament that starts Friday at the University of Wisconsin's Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Junior Lily Priewe (14-3) defeated Elizabeth Murphy 7-6 (3), 6-3. At No. 4 singles, Alyssa Quinn (13-3) beat Milton's Sharnay Furseth 6-2, 6-3.

"All of the players played hard and met my expectations," Monroe coach Stephanie Miller said. "We didn't know what to expect. We thought we were playing a team close to our own ability. It gave them a good test to see what they will see at the conference tournament."

The Cheesemakers' No. 1 doubles team of senior Kelsey Erickson and junior Brooke McBain defeated Milton's Megan Burandt and Brooke Negus 6-0, 6-3.

The No. 3 doubles team of Elisabeth Brunner and Ellie Grossen defeated Hannah Simes and Bailee Priewe 6-2, 6-2. The Cheesemakers' No. 2 doubles team of senior Becca Flannery and senior Rachel Thompson lost a three-set match to Milton's Allyson Brissette and Brooke Feason 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.

McBain said she and Erickson have definitely developed a better rhythm and are playing better together, compared to the beginning of the season.

"The communication has improved," McBain said.

Erickson looked at the match against the Red Hawks as a chance to continue to improve.

"We knew they (Milton) were one of the stronger teams," Erickson said. "We knew they would be good at getting us ready for Friday and Saturday."
