FORT ATKINSON - The Cheesemakers reeled off another impressive win Friday night, as Monroe's girls basketball team showed again what kind of potential it has in a 41-38 win over Fort Atkinson.

"We played very well," Monroe head coach Sam Mathiason said. "We led the entire game."

The Cheesemakers (6-5, 2-3 Badger South) jumped out on a 9-0 run to open the game and held an 11-7 advantage after the first quarter. Fort Atkinson (9-3, 3-3) came back to make it 22-21 at halftime and the Blackhawks tied the score at 31 at the end of three quarters.

"It was back and forth in that third quarter. We had a good start to the fourth and did what we needed to do to win," Mathiason said.

The Cheesemakers went seven possessions without scoring in the fourth, which allowed the Blackhawks to creep back into the contest. Monroe also shot just 7 of 17 from the free-throw line in the game, including a sluggish 4-for-11 mark in the fourth.

"We didn't make the free throws that we wanted to. But the girls did a real nice job keeping their composure," Mathiason said.

Brooke McBain scored 13 points, Kyleigh Sellnow had 12 and Kylee Ritschard added seven for the Cheesemakers. Mathiason praised Sellnow for her defense.

"(Fort Atkinson's) Lexie Wiegand, who averages double figures, scored just two points. Kyleigh Sellnow did a great job on her."

Monroe hits the hardwood again on Tuesday as they host conference leader Madison Edgewood (8-3, 5-0).
