LANSING, Mich. - Monroe High School graduate Colin Burns won the Men's 94 kilogram weight class at the 29th Annual Spartan Open Weightlifting Championships, March 27.
Burns had a clean-and-jerk lift of 158 kilos and a snatch of 136 kilos for a total of 294 kilos. He won the Overall Best Lifter trophy and qualified for the USA National Weightlifting Championships to be held in Peoria, Ill., June 12.
A clean and jerk is a lift from the floor overhead in two movements; to the chest in the first movement and overhead in the second. A snatch is a lift from the floor overhead in one movement. These are the lifts that are used in Olympic weightlifting competitions.
