CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University junior guard Marissa Young, a Monroe alum, was recently named to the 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-District women's basketball team.

Student-athletes receiving this distinction are chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and are recognized as the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance both on the floor and in the classroom. Young was one of just five players named first team Academic All-District in District Five of the College Division, which combines NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

Young currently leads the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) in scoring, averaging 18.4 points per game, and is second in the conference in steals with a 3.8 a game average. Her scoring average ranks her No. 16 in the entire NAIA in points per game and is fourth nationally in steals per game (3.8 spg).

Young is majoring in biology (pre-medicine) at Saint Xavier University and carries a 3.95 grade-point average. Although a junior in terms of athletic eligibility, she has completed enough hours to rank as a senior academically. As a first team all-district honoree, Young will now advance to the national Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Saint Xavier (16-6 overall, 4-1 CCAC) continues its regular season slate on Wednesday, February 9, with a non-conference game against Trinity Christian College (Ill.). The match-up is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
