BELOIT - Despite the rain, the Monroe golf team braved the elements and finished in seventh place at the Beloit Invitational Friday, May 3.

Madison Memorial won the team title for the second straight year, finishing with a 305. The Cheesemakers shot a 356.

"I was happy, especially with the conditions," Monroe coach Braden Rindy said of his team's performance. "The kids were playing in the same conditions. I think we shot around where I expected. It's where I thought we would be."

Monroe junior Eric Timm shot an 84 and senior Caleb Pagel finished with an 86. Sophomore Matt Miller shot a 90 and Tanner Thompson carded a 96. Timm was four shots from finishing in the top 10.

Monroe (0-2 Badger South) has four conference matches next week, beginning with a match at Milton Monday, May 6.

"It still seems like we are just starting our season and conference will be all over next week," Rindy said.

Monroe plays at Stoughton Tuesday, May 7 and hosts Fort Atkinson Wednesday, May 8. The Cheesemakers close out the conference season hosting Monona Grove Friday, May 10.

After four conference matches, the Cheesemakers will compete in the Badger Conference tournament at the Springs Golf Course at the House on the Rock Resort in Spring Green Wednesday, May 15.

"Hopefully, we will be golfing well and ride out a hot streak," Rindy said. "Hopefully, we place well in conference. If we golf crappy, we could be at the bottom of the conference."
