The boys golf season is still young, but coach Brian Jensen says it's time for his Monroe Cheesemakers to adjust their primary goal.
"Our outlook for our conference season could be even better," Jensen said after Tuesday's 163-175 victory against Milton at Monroe Country Club.
The win moved the Cheesemakers to 2-0 in the Badger South Conference. Monroe is coming off a 3-3 league finish in 2011.
"We had a goal for a four-win (conference) season and we play six matches," Jensen said. "Now, we're definitely trying to get to a five-win season."
Kyle Bruce shot the low round in the match with a 38. Eric Timm carded a 40, Matt Miller a 41, Jason Atkinson a 44 and Caleb Pagel a 50. The top four scores count toward the team total.
"Kyle played really well - he bogeyed the last three holes and he still shot 38," Jensen said, adding that Bruce had a 20-yard chip for birdie on No. 3.
Timm had birdies on his first two holes and was held down only by a 9 on No. 7.
"Eric had a lot of nice iron approaches," Jensen said. "He had a good round overall."
Joe Meyer led Milton with a 41, but the Redhawks fought an uphill battle.
"A 163 is a vast improvement from the last couple of years," Jensen said. "We're definitely getting a lot better scores across the board from five players that we have the last couple years, when we relied on one or two players."
