Monroe goes 0-3 at nationals

BENSENVILLE, Ill. - The Monroe Avalanche high school hockey team lost three games at the USA High School Nationals in Bensenville, Ill.

The Avalanche playing in the Division B2 high school bracket lost their first game Wednesday to Fishers/HSE, an Indiana team, 7-3.

On Thursday, Notre Dame of Arizona knocked off Monroe, 10-1. The Avalanche lost to the Des Moines Capitals 6-0 Friday.

Monroe goal tender Sean Winters racked up 121 saves. He stopped 84 percent of the shots on goal. The Avalanche scored just four goals in the three games and they gave up 23.

Monroe junior forward Ron Daves scored two goals to lead the Avalanche. Sophomore Matt Bush and freshman Mitch Riese also scored goals.

The Avalanche had four players who recorded one assist each, including Nigel Tourdot, Brandon Mortimer, Ian Zimmerman and Jamie Moats.

After the first three days of the national tournament, Notre Dame, Fishers/HSE and the Des Moines Capitals are each 2-1.
