MOUNT HOREB - The Monroe High School girls track team won five events at the Mount Horeb quadrangular Tuesday.
The quad was not scored, but Monroe coach Matt Davis enjoyed having the athletes get an opportunity to compete in the first outdoor meet.
"Being our first outdoor meet we didn't load it up," Davis said. "We are using our meets at this point of the season as conditioning. I feel like it was a good first outdoor meet. It was nice to see our girls get out and compete."
Monroe sophomore Cammi Ganshert won the 100-meter dash (12.56 seconds) and took second in the 400 (1:03).
"Cammi ran a really fast time," Davis said. "We know she's fast. She is faster at this point of the season than she was last year."
Monroe senior Casey Rielly placed second in the 100 hurdles (16.45).
The Cheesemakers' 3,200 relay team of Allyce Fahrney, Kati Symons, Sydney Mathiason and Rachel Meier took second (10:52.70).
In the field events, sophomore Faith Koester finished first in the high jump (5 feet).
"Five feet is kind of like the benchmark in the high jump," Davis said. "If you can go 5-0 you can usually score really well at the conference meet."
Senior Josie Eberle won the pole vault and tied her personal-best at 9-6.
Senior Lexus Trickel won the triple jump (30-6) and added a second-place finish in the long jump (15-3 1⁄2).
Senior Jordan Hirsbrunner took second in the 200 (27.30) and second in the shot put (30-11). Hirsbrunner, a University of Wisconsin track recruit, finished behind Stoughton senior Alyson Weum, who is a University of Iowa recruit, in the 200.
"It was really neat to see Jordan, a Badger recruit battle it out with Weum, who is an Iowa recruit," Davis said.
In the boys meet, Monroe junior Dylan Scace won the 1,600 (4:42.30).
"He went out and ran away from everybody," Monroe boys track coach Scott Mosher said. "He ran a really nice time for this early in the season."
Monroe sophomore Kyle Legler took third (4:52.10). Senior Trevor Aebly won the 110 high hurdles (15.7) and was second in the 300 hurdles (44.0). D.J. Gersbach took third in the 110 hurdles (19.5).
Monroe sophomore Jordan Montgomery took second in the 100 (11.0) and placed second in the 200 (23.10). Montgomery set the sophomore record in the 100 and it's the fourth fastest 100 time in the history of the program. The time Montgomery ran in the 200 also set a sophomore record.
"Jordan had an incredible meet," Mosher said.
The Cheesemakers' 800 relay team of Jevon Gibson, Jason Koller, Ethan Kleckler and Brayden Zettle finished second (1:37.90).
"Coach (Shawn) Paulson has really worked with our sprinters in the weight room," Mosher said. "Our sprinters are a lot faster and stronger and improved from last year."
