MONROE - After 100 minutes of soccer that featured two overtimes, Monroe tied Madison Edgewood 2-2 at Honey Creek Park Tuesday, April 30.
"In a tournament, it would have went to penalty kicks," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "It's tough to lose in overtime. I think for us it was a good way to end the game in a tie. They played a phenomenal game. Every single player stepped up and gave Edgewood a run for their money."
Monroe senior Jess Farrar scored a game-tying goal off a direct free kick at 18 minutes, 56 seconds. Monroe junior Gabby Ludwig scored a goal on an assist from Emily Frankowski at 69:15, to give the Cheesemakers a 2-1 lead. About two minutes later, Edgewood's Anna Adamo scored a game-tying goal to send the game to overtime.
Monroe junior goalkeeper Shyanna Kelley had 21 saves. Edgewood out-shot Monroe 23-12.
"(Kelley) had a fantastic game," O'Neill said.
