BLACK EARTH - Monroe girls track coach Curt Miller looks at invitational meets as auditions.

"We use our invitationals to try to learn more about our team," Miller said.

He learned Friday that Jaclyn Ditter can do well in the hurdles. The Monroe sophomore won her first race in the 300-meter hurdles in 52.06 seconds.

Monroe used its depth again and smashed the field, running away with the Wisconsin Heights Invitational title by outdistancing River Valley, 146-96.

"We just knew she had the hurdle potential," Miller said of Ditter. "She's a strong girl with a lot of talent. She's one of those kids who will do anything."

Pecatonica senior Elise Sigg won the 3,200 (12 minutes, 4.60 seconds), finishing ahead of fellow Pec senior Kelsey Duxstad (12:43.21). Sigg also won the 1,600 (5:21.90), and the Vikings finished sixth as a team.

The Cheesemakers' 800 relay team of Maria Eberle, Ty Gibson, Stephanie Wyss and Ditter finished first with a time of 1:53.66. Wyss also won the 800 (2:32.06), five-tenths of a second ahead of Pecatonica freshman Kendra Sigg. Pecatonica-Argyle's 800 relay team of Holly Vlasak, Alisha Esselstein, Tanna Crull and Cassie Welch finished second with a time of 1:54.12, which was less than one second away from the Cheesemakers.

Pecatonica-Argyle's 400 relay team of Vlasak, Esselstein, Brittany Ziller and Welch also took second with a time of (:55.31).

Monroe's Paige Hoesly finished second in the 100 hurdles (:18.75) and in the long jump (14 feet, 2 3/4 inches).

The Cheesemakers' 1,600 relay team of Abby Jacobson, Eberle, Molly Wyss and Tess Seichter finished second with a time of 4:434.21. Monroe's 3,200 relay team of Alexa Yurs, Duxstad, Jamie Armstrong and Tessa Frutiger took second with a time of 10:42.86.

"We felt pretty comfortable," Miller said. "We have won this meet a couple of years now. Our depth carried us through."

Monroe will have several athletes compete at the Redbird Invitational at Darlington on Monday. The full team will get back into Badger South Conference dual meet action when the Cheesemakers travel to Fort Atkinson on Tuesday.
