MONROE - The Monroe girls basketball team received a No. 10 seed in the WIAA Division 2 Janesville Craig sectional and will play at Mount Horeb in a regional quarterfinal game on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

The WIAA released the tournament brackets Sunday. If Monroe (1-20, 0-11 Badger South) beats Mount Horeb, they would get a third game against Madison Edgewood. Regional quarterfinal games are set for Feb. 26, regional semifinal games on March 1 and regional final games on March 2. Sectionals are slated for March 7 and 9. Monroe coach Sam Mathiason said he thought the Cheesemakers would get a No. 9, 10 or 11 seed. Mount Horeb (8-13) has won four of their games against Portage and Sauk prairie which are a combined 10-31. The Cheesemakers' lone win this year came against Portage.

"You know that being the No. 10 seed they will end up being the favorite," Mathiason said. "We have to focus on Mount Horeb. We can't worry about anything after that. We have to play Milton this week and then prepare for Mount Horeb. Hopefully, we can play at the level we need to. I feel like we have a chance. That's all you can ask for at this time."

In Division 3, Brodhead received a No. 1 seed in the bottom half of the WIAA Division 3 Sun Prairie sectional and will receive a first-round bye. The Cardinals will play the winner of Evansville and Edgerton on Friday, March 1.

"Obviously, it's nice to be the No. 1 seed," Brodhead coach Brad Pickett said. "It shows that we have had a pretty good year so far. The girls know they have to take care of business and they are excited for the tournament."

Brodhead (20-1, 14-1 Rock valley) won the conference championship and now they are looking to make a run in the tournament.

"One of our goals was to win a conference championship and we got that," Pickett said. "It's tournament time and we want to continue playing hard. We want to get to a sectional. You have to have a one game at a time mentality. As soon as you look ahead someone steps up and gets you."

Darlington received a No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the Division 4 tournament. The Redbirds will play the winner of Belleville and Southwestern on March 1. The other regional games scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 26 include:

Division 4

No. 13 Waterloo at No. 4 New Glarus

No. 9 Catholic Central at No. 8 Pecatonica

No. 12 Johnson Creek at No. 5 Black Hawk
