SAUK CITY - The Cheesemakers hit nine 3-pointers in a 58-48 win over Sauk Prairie in a Badger Conference crossover Monday night.

"It was a really nice team effort," Monroe coach Sam Mathiason said. "We made a lot of extra passes. That opened up the offense, as you can tell by the nine 3-pointers. We had a lot of people contribute."

Five different Cheesemakers hit 3s. Kylee Ritschard led Monroe with three 3s and 18 points, Kyleigh Sellnow hit two 3s and had 16 points; and Brooke McBain had 14 points and two 3s. Abby Jacobson and Kristin McArdle also hit 3s.

"I'm proud of the team," Mathiason said. "This is one of those games where we hope to develop the confidence needed to springboard us into playoffs next week."

Monroe (11-10) outscored Sauk Prairie 14-13 in each of the first two quarters, but used an 8-0 run to close out the third quarter. Down the stretch, the Cheesemakers hit the free throws needed to keep the Eagles at bay.

Monroe's last regular season game is Thursday at home against Stoughton. They will open the playoffs at home against Portage on March 8.

Black Hawk 55, Mineral Point 34

SOUTH WAYNE - The Warriors finished the regular season unscathed with a non-conference win over Mineral Point on Monday.

"We'll enjoy it tonight and then we'll have off of practice tomorrow, so we will enjoy it a little tomorrow," said Black Hawk coach Mike Flanagan, "but after that it's irrelevant. Come Wednesday we will have to put all of our focus on the playoffs so this (going undefeated) is not really going to mean anything."

Black Hawk (22-0) was the state runner-up last year in Division 4 and has been ranked No. 2 in Associated Press Poll in Division 5 all season. With that target on its back, Flanagan said he and his team knows every other school will be looking to knock them off.

But for one night, the Warriors got to enjoy themselves.

Senior Rachel Rygh scored 15 points in her last regular season game on her home court and freshman Jen Wellnitz added 16 for the Warriors, who played without sharpshooter Chaesta Shager.

Barneveld 53, New Glarus 40

BARNEVELD - Chelsea Holler scored all 10 of her points in the second half and teammate Anya Schween finished with nine points as the Knights fell hard to Barneveld in a non-conference game Monday.

"It was slow going in the first half," New Glarus coach Megan Scheele said. "They (Barneveld) came out with lots of intensity."

The Eagles led 26-10 at halftime and 41-23 headed into the fourth quarter.
