WAUNAKEE - The Monroe tennis team dropped a Badger Conference crossover match 5-2 to Waunakee Tuesday.
"It was a disappointing day for Monroe tennis against Waunakee," Monroe coach Brad Saugstad said. "We really thought we had a chance to beat Waunakee tonight, but they took it to us. Waunakee came out with more energy and we just came out flat and got behind in six of the seven matches."
The Cheesemakers' No. 1 doubles team of seniors Carson Root and Garrett Tschanz defeated Waunakee's Alex Cordell and Jason Ripp 6-1, 6-1. The other win for the Cheesemakers came from sophomore Taylor Soddy, who defeated Calvin Clack at No. 1 singles 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3.
Waunakee's Alex Brost at No. 2 singles defeated Quinten L'Yvonnet 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Waunakee's Jacob Yaeger defeated Jess Hager at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-2. Joey Schneider defeated Monroe's Kevin Kohlstedt 6-1, 6-1.
The Cheesemakers' No. 2 doubles team of Cristian Noreiga and Josh Riese lost to Jim Larson and Jameson Coopman, 6-1, 7-5. At No. 3 doubles, Monroe's Luke Andraski and Luke Molinaro lost to Alex Weiker and Sam Skaaland 6-3, 6-0.
