PEWAUKEE - Coming off an emotional double overtime tie against Milton, Monroe coach Tony Stamm knew the Cheesemakers would face a road test at Pewaukee.

The Pirates defeated the Cheesemakers 2-0 on Thursday in a non-conference game. With the loss, Monroe drops to 2-1-2.

"They are an extremely strong team," Stamm said. "They were excellent passers and were well disciplined."

Pewaukee scored two, first-half goals.

"The one thing we had to do against a great passing team was mark up," Stamm said. If you don't mark up they will just pass it around you."

Monroe goalkeeper Kyle Williams had eight saves.

Stamm said Pewaukee was good at passing the ball and attacking with players running to the back of the goal, which is how they scored both points.

"There was really no way for him (Williams) to recover in time," Stamm said.

Next up, Monroe will host Sugar River at 10 a.m. Saturday at Honey Creek Park.
