MADISON - Madison Edgewood rolled to a 6-1 win over the Monroe High School boys tennis team on Tuesday.
The lone win for the Cheesemakers (1-5, 0-3 Badger South) came from senior Silas Setterstrom who defeated Edgewood's Hunter Dunn 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
"Silas had a really strong showing and is putting together a nice season so far," Monroe coach Matt Bordner said. "He puts in a lot of work to improve his game, and it's definitely paying off. He did a nice job of working his opponent and didn't let up from the start."
At No. 2 singles, Edgewood's Christopher Boll defeated Monroe senior Ryan Peterson 6-0, 6-0. The Crusaders' Nathan Weaver at No. 3 singles beat Monroe senior Nick Baumann 6-0, 6-1. At No. 4 singles, Edgewood's Sean Ghanian defeated Monroe's Scott Foley 6-0, 6-0.
The Crusaders swept all three doubles matches. Edgewood's Forrest Lynn and Charlie Weitz at No. 1 defeated Monroe's Alex Tordoff and Nathan Smith 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2, Edgewood's Kurtis Thelen and Bryce Kessel beat the Cheesemakers' Jacob Kind and Ross Oxenrider 6-1, 6-0. Edgewood's No. 3 doubles team of Hunter Stracka and Peter Sviatoslavsky topped Scott Navarro and Ayden Bergemann 6-0, 6-0.
"Edgewood is a lot more experienced than us, and you could tell in most of our matches," Bordner said. "Even so, our guys played hard and have some positives to take away. When you play a team like that, you have to take it as a learning experience. Edgewood does a lot of the little things well, and they are a well-coached team."
Monroe is at Monona Grove on Friday.
