MADISON - Junior Michael Meriggioli scored a game-high 23 points and drilled three 3-pointers to lead Madison Edgewood to a 62-57 win over Monroe Tuesday.

"We talked a lot about coming out in this conference ready to play," Monroe assistant coach Jake Grinnell said. "We came out sluggish. It was their Senior Night and they came out ready to play for those guys. We didn't come out ready."

Edgewood led by as many as 15 points in the first half. The Crusaders had eight offensive rebounds in the same time frame and led 32-22 at the break.

"We just got killed on offensive rebounds," Grinnell said. "We were in scramble mode after that."

Monroe senior Brayden Zettle scored a team-high 14 points and knocked down two 3-pointers. Junior Kade King added 12 points and senior David Keegan had 11.

The Cheesemakers (12-8, 7-5 Badger South) cut the Crusaders lead to three points a couple times late in the second half. However, the Crusaders shot 75 percent at the free-throw line (24 of 32).

"They made their free throws down the stretch," Grinnell said.
