MONROE - The Monroe girls soccer team scored two second-half goals to pull out a 3-1 win over Sauk Prairie in a non-conference game Thursday at Honey Creek Park.

Monroe junior Maddie Kallgren scored one goal and had one assist. With the win, the Cheesemakers improve to 2-1-2.

Kallgren scored the first goal on a direct kick from about 40-yards out at 38 minutes, 16 seconds.

"It was a beautiful free kick," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "It was perfect."

After Sauk Prairie came back to tie the game in the second half, the Cheesemakers answered. Monroe freshman Brynn Ritschard scored the go-ahead goal on an assist from senior Emily Frankowski at 60:54.

Monroe freshman goalkeeper Reily Pond had 10 saves. None of Pond's saves were as big as the one she had in the 70th minute where she made a diving save on a penalty kick. It was Pond's second start at goalie. Monroe senior goalkeeper Gwendolyn Ambrose missed the game due to a concussion.

"That was crucial because it would have tied the game," O'Neill said of Pond's save on a penalty kick. "She had a magnificent game."

Freshman teammate Olivia Werth added a goal on an assist from Kallgren at 74:16.

"After the first 20 minutes, they settled in and were more organized than I have seen them," O'Neill said of the Cheesemakers offensive attack. "They made a lot of opportunities for themselves."
