MONROE - After dropping the first set to Sauk Prairie in a nonconference match, the Monroe High School volleyball team showed its resiliency by bouncing back.

Senior Alicia Kuester had a team-high 15 kills and helped the Cheesemakers storm back for a 16-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-21 win Thursday on Senior Night.

"They played a great all-around game," Monroe coach Heidi Witt said of the Cheesemakers. "They knew this would be their last time on this court in the regular season. After that first set, they stepped it up and came out on fire. They fought hard and communicated really well."

The Cheesemakers (11-11, 1-4 Badger South) had four players reach double figures in kills. Senior Lexus Trickel had 11 kills, and both senior Whitney Wells and junior Sydney Mathiason had 10 kills.

"That just tells you how they were connecting with their setters," Witt said. "It was a big hitting night. She (Trickel) was really on tonight."

Monroe senior Chloe Schroeder posted five blocks, and senior Lexi Hilliard had 12 digs. Senior Hannah Neuenschwander racked up 29 assists, and junior Alysha Witt added 18 assists.

There was an extra benefit for the Cheesemakers.

"It was nice to beat a team that will be in our regional," Witt said of Sauk Prairie.

Monroe will play in the Wisconsin Heights Invitational on Saturday.

"They are fired up," Witt said of the Cheesemakers. "They are ready to play. I think they will come into Saturday with a good mindset. They know they have a job to do before they can come home and celebrate homecoming."
