Monroe drops dual to Beavers

MONROE - It was a rough start for the Monroe High School boys tennis team Tuesday in its home opener.

Junior Silas Setterstrom at No. 1 singles had the only win for Monroe as Reedsburg defeated the Cheesemakers 6-1 in a nonconference dual match held at Recreation Park and Northeast Park.

Setterstrom knocked off Reedsburg's Ryan Dregney in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 and improved his record to 2-2 this season.

Monroe, which drops to 0-4 in dual matches, will play at Jefferson on Friday.

At No. 2 singles, Reedsburg's Colin Crolius defeated Monroe junior Ryan Peterson 6-1, 7-6 (5). Reedburg's Logan Depkwitz knocked off Monroe sophomore Quinn Sulejmani 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. At No. 4 singles, Reedsburg's Chris Jepson beat Monroe junior Scott Foley 6-1, 6-0.

The Beavers swept all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, the Beavers' Jack Yager and Luke Friede defeated Monroe junior Kody Althaus and Tanner Purdy 6-1, 6-0. Reedsburg's Tyson Holtz and Patrick Pollard beat the Cheesemakers' duo of senior Ryan Stoneback and sophomore Brett Lyne 6-2, 6-1 at No 2 doubles. The Beavers' No. 3 doubles tandem of Dylan Ganem and Micah Peterson knocked off Monroe juniors Andrew Johnson and Zeke Frankford 6-1, 6-3.
