MILTON - Senior Megan Baumgartner and junior Meredith Hose combined for six hits and six RBI to power the Monroe High School softball team to a 12-1, five-inning win over Milton Tuesday in the Badger South Conference opener.
Both Baumgartner and Hose went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Every player in the Cheesemakers' lineup except senior Carly Upmann had at least one hit. Upmann still got on base by walking three times.
"We got people on base, and we just kept on hitting," Monroe coach Joe O'Leksy said. "We got 14 hits in five innings, and I will take that any day. We had five extra-base hits and that is awesome."
Both junior Alysha Witt and sophomore Olivia Bobak went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one double. Jessie Bennett also went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Monroe (2-0, 1-0 Badger South) scored seven runs in the third inning to take a 9-0 lead.
"I was very happy with how we came out with a lot of energy in our first conference game on the road," O'Leksy said.
Bobak pitched a complete game and gave up one unearned run on one hit. She struck out seven and walked three.
"We played pretty well on defense and we got great pitching and hitting," O'Leksy said. "Bobak really had good bite and movement on her pitches. Her curveball was really great."
