DODGEVILLE - Senior Maddie Kallgren scored three goals and had two assists to power the Monroe High School girls soccer team to a 10-0 win over Dodgeville-Mineral Point in 68 minutes Thursday.
Monroe scored three goals in the first five minutes of the nonconference game.
Monroe sophomore Brynn Ritschard and senior Sami Curtis each had two goals. Sophomore teammate Reily Pond had one goal and two assists, and sophomore Morgan Seffrood added two assists.
Monroe (8-2-2, 0-1-1 Badger South) erupted for six goals in the first half.
"It was great to see them take control with a lot of different people scoring," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "They got it in their heads they might be able to end the game early and that is what they did."
There is a 10-goal mercy rule in WIAA soccer.
Monroe senior Shannon Rabotski scored a goal on an assist from Kallgren at 1 minute, 2 seconds. About 2 minutes later, Ritschard scored her first goal on a pass from Pond to give the 2Cheesemakers a 2-0 lead. Curtis then scored a goal on an assist from Rabotski at 4:50 to take a 3-0 lead. Kallgren scored two straight goals to extend the Cheesemakers' lead to 5-0 at 19:39. Her second goal came on an assist from Seffrood. Curtis scored her second goal on an assist from Pond to give the Cheesemakers a 6-0 lead at the half.
Pond opened the second half with a goal on a pass from freshman Anna Latimer at 52:30. Moments later, Kallgren scored her third goal for the hat trick. Ritschard scored her second goal on a pass from Kallgren at 62:10 to give the Cheesemakers a 9-0 lead. Sophomore Kennedy Ludwig ended the game with a goal on an assist from Seffrood at 68:63.
