MONROE - The Avalanche hockey team had a breakout performance in a 17-7 loss to Waunakee Monday night.
The Avalanche (0-3) had six different players score goals including Johnny Kallgren, Geoff Daley, Jarrett Warden, Matt Hodgson, Anthony Theisen and T.J. Parrent.
"They stepped up and played physical hockey," Avalanche coach Nate Brown said. "It was nice to see."
It was the first goals of the season for the Monroe co-op, which includes Freeport, Lena-Winslow, Albany, Beloit Turner, Darlington, Parkview and Pecatonica schools.
The Avalanche will play their first home hockey game against Oregon as a WIAA-sanctioned team, today at 7 p.m. at SLICE. Brown said there will be a puck drop ceremony before the game, at around 6:30 p.m.
"We are all really excited," Brown said. "It will be great to get the program launched. It's good for everyone."
