MADISON - With three races in the past two weeks, the Monroe Cheesemakers used the team's experience at the Madison West Invitational to rest some of their runners. Eight runners recorded personal bests, but the Cheesemakers still finished last in the 15 team varsity race at Yahara Hills Country Club with 358 points.

The Cheesemakers' top runner, Dylan Starck, ran his first race of the season and placed 21st with a time of 17:43. Starck has been slowed by a hip injury which has kept him out of action so far this season. Freshman Steve Christiansen placed 72nd with a time of 19:22. Also for Monroe, freshman Brian Schneider finished 84th in 20:20, Payton Hoesly 92nd in 20:40, and Cameron Studer 96th in 21:45.

Verona won the team title with 48 points and had five runners finish within 29 seconds of each other.

"We are very much looking forward to our last home meet this coming Tuesday, the Badger Challenge," said Monroe head coach Dave Hirsbrunner.

Hirsbrunner added that of the 20 runners for Monroe, only six have run in high school cross country before.
