BEAVER DAM - The Monroe boys soccer team had some scoring chances, but couldn't cash in during two losses in Beaver Dam Saturday.

Wauwatosa West beat the Cheesemakers 1-0 in the first game. Monroe senior goalkeeper Austin Murphy had six saves.

"I think we played some of our best soccer of the year," Monroe coach Tony Vasquez said. "They are a big Division 1 school. I'm really happy with how we played. We battled the whole game."

In the second game, Beaver Dam defeated the Cheesemakers 2-0. Beaver Dam didn't score until there was 10 minutes left in the game. Murphy had eight saves. With the loss, Monroe drops to 3-7, 0-1 Badger South. The Cheesemakers have lost five straight games.

"Our guys were just running out of gas," Vasquez said. "We had four or five opportunities with the ball just bouncing around the net and we just couldn't put it in. I think the three games in two days just kind of wore them down."

Monroe will host Monona Grove Thursday.
