Monroe boys snag third place in Edgerton

EDGERTON - With a slew of area teams gathering at the Edgerton Invitational on Friday, the Monroe Cheesemakers continued to show signs of their progress, as both the boys and girls squads had strong nights in multiple events.

On the boys side, the Cheesemakers finished with a third overall placing with 108.5 points. Collecting first-place finishes were junior Seth Calaway in the 100-meter dash, with a time of 11.62 seconds. Calaway along with the 400-meter relay team of Dakota Phillips, Forrest Klug-Hansen, and Cody Wolf took top honors in the event with a time of 44.86. Senior Jake Hirsbrunner jumped 6 feet, 4 inches to take the top spot in the high jump. Ethan Moehn continued his strong season with a meet record in the 800 meters, finishing with a time of 1:53.78. Moehn, along with Phillips, Noah Tostrud, and Cody Faust helped the 1,600-meter relay team with a first place finish and time of 3:28.75.

The girls squad finished fifth in the team standings with an overall score of 75 points. Abby Oudinot set a career best in the triple jump with a first-place finish of 34-2.75. Taking the top spot in the pole vault was senior Tre Voegli, who cleared a height of 10-6. The 400-meter relay team of Oudinot, Voegli, Isabel Bazley, and Lauren Werth finished one second faster than their season best, with a first-place time of 52.07 seconds. The 1,600-meter relay team of Bazley, Vetterli, Mafer Larraga, and Jordan Hirsbrunner finished second with a time of 4 minutes, 17.69 seconds. Adding to her strong all-around night, Hirsbrunner also placed second in the 300-meter hurdles (50.33) and high jump (5-2).

"We performed very well," coach Doug Miller said of his squad's performances. "We had a lot of good places, and we had some people set personal bests, which is great to see as you near the end of the season. (But) tonight there was a lot of good competition to go around, so we are very pleased with what we did here tonight."
