MOUNT HOREB - The Monroe boys soccer team had a chance Thursday to play a Mount Horeb team that is expected to get a No. 1 regional seed.

Mount Horeb shut down the Cheesemakers, handing them a 4-0 loss.

"It would have been nice to win. It would have really helped in the seed meeting Sunday," Monroe coach Tony Stamm said. "I think they will be the No. 1 seed in our regional. They are a very good defensive team."

The Vikings scored three first half goals en route to the shutout. With the loss, Monroe (1-4 Badger South) drops to 7-11-3 overall. Monroe senior goalkeeper Kramer Henning had seven saves.

"Defensively, we were just kind of sluggish," Stamm said. "We didn't seem like we were very fast to the ball."

Monroe hosts Madison Edgewood Tuesday and hosts a Badger Challenge game against a counterpart from the Badger North on Thursday.
